Joan of Arc wearing armour

Joan of Arc wearing armour and mounted upon a horse at the head of her troops by Jules Prater.

Born in 1412 in Domrémy, France, Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orléans, claimed to have received visions instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination. At just 17, she led French forces to victory in the Siege of Orléans, turning the tide of the war in favor of France. Captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, and then tried for witchcraft and heresy, Joan was executed by burning at the stake in 1431, at the age of 19. Canonized as a saint in 1920, Joan of Arc remains a powerful figure of courage, faith, and determination
