Fed-up Magaluf locals hit back at drunken British holidaymakers with a petition protesting tourists

Fed-up Magaluf locals hit back at drunken British holidaymakers with a petition protesting tourists' 'shameful' behaviour such as public sex and fighting
Fed-up residents and business owners in controversy-hit Magaluf are revolting against 'anything goes, cheap tourism'.

Following on from a string of incidents, including a group of 18 British lads running along the sea-front completed naked and fighting between Scotland and England fans, they have declared: 'Enough is enough!'

A protest petition has been launched on the platform Change.org which calls on the local council and police to do something as a matter of urgency

Residents on the Spanish island of Mallorca have started a petition calling for the end to 'anything goes, cheap tourism' which they say is blighting their communities

The move to clean up Magaluf's image began in 2015 sparking a five-year, £214m regeneration programme, and the raft of new rules shows it has now been stepped up even more

The petition picks out locations such as Magaluf (pictured), which is popular with young Brits, as particular problem destinations

They say behaviour such as urinating and vomiting in the street, sex acts in public, syringes on the beach, shouting and fighting, use of megaphones, loud music, vandalism and aggression can no longer be tolerated.

'This is not tourism nor is quality, it is overexploitation of our resources at a cheap price,' the campaigners say.

The complaints pick out the areas of Magaluf, Punta Ballena and Palmanova, as well as the resorts of S'Arenaland Playa de Palma, all popular with young Brits.

As the summer season swings into action, the holidaymakers have been photographed and filmed being drunk and sick in the streets, brawling, boozing and streaking - everything tourism chiefs have been trying to stamp out.

Council leaders say they are in despair because a few days of bad publicity can totally reverse all the good work they have been trying to do over the last year.

Financial penalties are being imposed, including for the new offence of being naked in a public place. It is understood the 18 Brits who streaked along the promenade were each fined 200 euros.

Fed-up residents fear this is not enough and in will no way act as a deterrent.

So far, more than 3,500 people have signed the protest petition on Change.org

It states: 'It seems that the arrival of heat, as every year, is for these areas of Mallorca synonymous with altercations with tourism.

'And it's been a long time since S'arenal, Playa de Palma, parts of Palmanova, Magaluf and Punta Ballena are affected by lack of civility and dirt.

'Images such as people vomiting and urinating in the street, people throwing glass bottles in the sea, plastics, papers, glass and all kinds of dirt on the streets and in the sand, sex scenes on the street or in public, syringes on the beach, shouting and continuous fights, megaphones and loud music, damaged cars, lack of respect for island residents, aggression towards pedestrians, ambulances attending daily comas, fights and balconing .. All this and more is seen daily both during the day and at night in the areas of S'arenal, Playa de Palma, Palmanova, Magaluf and Punta Ballena area.'

Residents cannot coexist any more with this type of cheap tourism of the "everything goes" variety.

'A tourism without quality or respect towards the public areas or even to our beaches, where you cannot always go with dogs but with glass and all kinds of dirt. '

'Please, we ask the Government of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca council and the respective town councils of the affected areas, to be coordinated in their respective responsibilities; to exercise effectively and as quickly as possible disciplinary measures, fines and sanctions against any person who acts in the face of a lack of civility and / or who foul our beaches and streets.

'With effective policing, we say yes to tourism but not to disrespect. Not another summer, this is not tourism or quality, is overexploitation of our resources.'

Of those who have already signed the petition, one comments: 'We want a clean, well-cared and unspoilt Mallorca!' whilst another writes: 'I would like to stroll along the promenade of Palma beach with tranquility in the company of my wife and my three children.'

The protest petition is also going to the Government of the Balearics.
