Five naked people arrested for kidnapping family with a baby

Police have arrested five naked people accused of kidnapping a family following a car crash.
In bizarre scenes officers are seen leading the group – who were wearing no clothes – away from the scene.

The five are accused of kidnapping a mother, her father and her newborn baby.

Pictures taken by an eyewitness show a naked woman being led away by police in freezing temperatures.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl Laurel Scott said the mother, the six-week-old baby and the woman’s father had been abducted from a home in Laduc County at around 9.30am and forced into a BMW against their will.

It is understood man, who was stuffed in the boot, managed to escape from the moving car and the mother escaped with the baby.

Officials say a passerby helped the family, putting them in his truck before the suspect’s white BMW rammed the rear of the Good Samaritan’s truck and ended up wrecked in a ditch.

Police then arrested a man, two women and two underage girls, all of whom were ‘not clothed at the time of their arrest’.

Four of the five naked people were taken to a hospital. The three adults now have charges pending for kidnapping and resisting arrest.

The two underage girls were released without charges. The kidnapped family – who police say knew the naked group – were not harmed.

A police statement said: ‘The RCMP believe that this was a targeted incident and that all parties were known to each other.’

From family to factory: women's lives during the Industrial Revolution

From family to factory: women's lives during the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution saw thousands of women enter the workplace alongside men – but it was far from emancipatory, writes Elinor Evans The Industrial Revolution caused a dramatic shift in women’s roles in society. Before industrialisation, the household would have been the centre of production, and women’s work largely confined to the domestic sphere, but no less physical for it. Tasks such as fetching water, and tending livestock would have kept women as busy as clothing and feeding a family, while many also took other work into their home such as hand-spinning or weaving. Cottage industry, as it was called, didn’t entirely end with the arrival of large- scale manufacturing, but the advent of machinery had an irreversible impact on women’s lives. As machines replaced individual labour and burgeoning industries needed coal, women became part of the growing working classes that laboured in mines and mills. In...

Ronni Douglas, 26, was enjoying her all-inclusive TUI holiday in Bodrum when she was struck by intense stomach pains and uncontrollable vomiting just three days into her trip. The situation took a dire turn when Ronni was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a perforated oesophagus, an acute condition that creates a hole in the passage from the throat to the stomach, putting her life at risk. Her family is now facing a financial crisis as they work to cover the 'staggering' medical expenses. Already burdened with a £5,000 bill for her immediate care and potential surgery, the costs are expected to rise since Ronni cannot leave Tu...

John Kimber was the captain of a British slave ship who was tried

Image
John Kimber was the captain of a British slave ship who was tried for murder in 1792,  after the abolitionist William Wilberforce accused him of torturing to death an enslaved teenaged girl on the deck of his ship. Kimber was acquitted, but the trial gained much attention in the press. The case established that slave ships' crew could be tried for murder of slaves.Publicity about the case contributed to growing opposition to the African slave trade, which the British parliament prohibited in its colonies by the Slave Trade Act 1807.In 1791, John Kimber was the captain of Recovery, a slave ship of 189 tons (bm) from Bristol, England.[1] The Recovery travelled from Bristol to New Calabar in West Africa, where it collected approximately 300 slaves who were to be sold at Grenada in the Caribbean. The vessel left Africa on 1 September, and arrived at Grenada on 28 October, by which time 27 of the slaves had died.[2] "Dancing the slaves" was a regular part of the routine of a...

LIZ JONES: The world's most famous women are utterly desperate . Their belief they have to be naked to be noticed is driven by fear It is billed as the Oscars of the fashion world. The annual red carpet Met Ball takes place on the first Monday in May inside New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art (though on the strength of the photos here, it should be renamed the Metropolitan Museum of A**e), hosted by American Vogue's global editor-in-chiefIt is meant to be a showcase for creativity. It is meant to demonstrate how the fashion industry really is a great art form, which these days is wholly inclusive of different shapes, races, genders and ages. Its purpose is to raise funds, ostensibly from its $350,000 (£279,000) per table-of-ten ticket sales, for the museum's work (though I do wonder whether the biggest stars stump up a bean) and to that end, sets its invitees a different theme each year on which to base their outfits. This time, it was florals. What's not to love ...

The First World War proved to be a calamity for both Germany and Europe, and the Second World War magnified this tragedy even further.

The First World War proved to be a calamity for both Germany and Europe, and the Second World War magnified this tragedy even further. Without both World Wars the Euro Ipean Union (EU) as we know it today might not exist. This article delves into the consequences of World War I, shedding light on the profound impact it had on shaping the course of history. The EU has provided the essential infrastructure to deal with ‘the German Question’ – the role of the largest and most powerful state in Europe. When Europeans commemorate the Great War of 1914-18 this summer they should be reflecting not only on the diplomatic blunders and the enormous waste of lives but also the beginning of a new approach to international relations epitomised by the EU. The First World War destroyed empires, created numerous new nation-states, encouraged independence movements in Europe’s colonies, forced the United States to become a world power and led directly to Soviet communism and the rise of Hitler. Diploma...
