Armor is not a new concept to the history-enthusiasts and the popularities . However, when considering armor in the context of Vietnam’s history or the World’s, there are many ambiguities and unresolved misunderstandings In this series of writings named “Discussion about Armor”, we aim to share the knowledge, information collected during our process of researching and re-producing armor to the public.   Definition: “Armor” refers to the wearing that provides protection to the body against physical contacts and harms.   By nature, “armor” is a type of armament. Therefore, from either perspective of researching or reproducing, armor can be analyzed by two key elements: “Indented Function” and “Manufacture Attributes” “Indented Function” includes: Possible usages: Slash resistance, Thrust resistance, Projectiles resistance, Shock resistance, Firearm’s projectiles resistance. Usage Scenario: On foot, on horse-back, on boat.  “Intended Functions” will determine the overall structures of the

On this day in 1944, a hero receives the Medal of Honor. Richard Sorenson had tried to enlist in the Navy immediately after the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. “On December 8,” Sorenson later described, “I skipped school and ran down to the recruiting office. . . . I got the papers and everything, but when I came home with them, my parents wouldn’t sign them because I was only 17.” He turned 18 later that year and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, but it was early 1944 by the time he’d finished training and been dispatched to the Pacific. His Medal of Honor action would be his first time in combat. Then-Private Sorenson was serving in a machine-gun squad with the Fourth Marine Division when it landed on the island of Namur, in the Marshall Islands, on February 1. About 4,000 Japanese soldiers were defending the island. “We hit the beach at 12 noon, exactly,” Sorenson described, “under quite heavy fire. The Japanese were great at hiding, and they would crawl under de

On this day in 1944, a hero engages in an action that would earn him the Medal of Honor

On this day in 1944, a hero engages in an action that would earn him the Medal of Honor.  Pfc. Leonard “Foster” Mason grew up in a large family, with 12 siblings. One of his sisters would later muse that the big family prepared him to jump into action on this day so long ago. “We all had responsibilities,” she said, noting that “[we all] took care of each other.” Mason’s heroism came on July 22, as our Marines sought to retake Guam from the Japanese. His platoon had been working to clear out a beachhead, but unfortunately entered a narrow gully that was well-defended by two enemy machine gun nests. The platoon was trapped, pinned down by enemy fire. Mason’s Medal of Honor citation is straightforward about what happened next: “Pfc. Mason, alone and entirely on his own initiative, climbed out of the gully and moved parallel to it toward the rear of the enemy position.”  He was fired upon and wounded, but “grimly pressed forward . . . . he persevered, clearing out the hostile position.” F

Hi, everyone -- I had a new “this day in history” story written for this morning.

Hi, everyone -- I had a new “this day in history” story written for this morning.   It was about something that happened during the Civil War. It feels wrong to post that story, though, given the events of the weekend. I don’t want to tell a story about a time when we were divided. Instead, count me among those who are joining the call for unity today. With that in mind, I’ve pulled a quote from Ronald Reagan’s farewell address in January 1989. It’s reprinted below. It's long past time that we remember who we are.  God Bless America! ------------- “[A]re we doing a good enough job teaching our children what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world? Those of us who are over 35 or so years of age grew up in a different America. We were taught, very directly, what it means to be an American. And we absorbed, almost in the air, a love of country and an appreciation of its institutions. If you didn’t get these things from your family you got them from the neig

President's daughter sparks breastfeeding debate with photo

President's daughter sparks breastfeeding debate with photo Aliya Shagieva posted the photo on social media back in April with the caption: 'I will feed my child whenever and wherever he needs to be fed.' She took the post down after being accused of immoral behaviour, but in an exclusive interview with the BBC she said the row was a result of a culture which hyper-sexualised the female form. "This body I've been given is not vulgar. It is functional, its purpose is to fulfil the physiological needs of my baby, not to be sexualised," she told BBC Kyrgyz. It wasn't only some social media users who disapproved. Her parents, President Almazbek Atambayev and his wife Raisa, were also unhappy. "They really didn't like it. And it is understandable because the younger generation is less conservative than their parents," Ms Shagieva said, speaking at her home on the outskirts of the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek. Ms Shagieva posts actively on social media,

The Indo-Aryan migrations[note 1]

Image
The Indo-Aryan migrations[note 1]  were the migrations into the Indian subcontinent of Indo-Aryan peoples, an ethnolinguistic group that spoke Indo-Aryan languages. These are the predominant languages of today's Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, North India, Eastern Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Indo-Aryan migration into the region, from Central Asia, is considered to have started after 2000 BCE as a slow diffusion during the Late Harappan period and led to a language shift in the northern Indian subcontinent. Several hundred years later, the Iranian languages were brought into the Iranian plateau by the Iranians, who were closely related to the Indo-Aryans. The Proto-Indo-Iranian culture, which gave rise to the Indo-Aryans and Iranians, developed on the Central Asian steppes north of the Caspian Sea as the Sintashta culture (c. 2200-1900 BCE),[2] in present-day Russia and Kazakhstan, and developed further as the Andronovo culture (2000–1450 BCE).[3][4] The Indo-Aryans split off sometime bet

Times Square: The City’s Id, Now and Always In 1981

Times Square: The City’s Id, Now and Always In 1981, in an incident that attracted international attention and spurred a citywide existential crisis, a 26-year-old man from Connecticut was set upon, stripped naked, and chased by a jeering, bottle-throwing crowd in Times Square at night — “shadowy figures, drug peddlers, con artists, vagrants,” as the Times would later describe the area’s inhabitants — into a subway station, then onto the tracks, where he died. In 2015, I’m watching the modern-day equivalent of that scenario play out, the only differences being that it’s the middle of the afternoon, no one’s throwing bottles, the victim is not really in mortal danger, and the crowd she’s being set upon by consists of Iron Man, two Minnie Mice, Elsa from Frozen, and Elmo. I’ve just arrived in Times Square to investigate the seemingly lawless chaos that has, of late, attracted international attention and spurred a citywide — or at least tabloidwide — existential crisis. I’ve been here for

Femen women held in Arab world's first topless protest

Femen women held in Arab world's first topless protest said Souheib Bahri, adding that she only risked a six month sentence for possessing the self-defence spray.   Amina sparked both scandal and a wave of online support after she was threatened by Tunisia's increasingly active hardline Islamists for posting topless pictures of herself on Facebook.   Her family said that she suffered from chronic depression and had suicidal tendencies, and they prevented her from going out, claiming her safety was at risk. But the young woman, who accused her relatives of holding her in captivity and beating her, ran away from home in April and has regularly appeared in public since, although never topless. The Femen movement, founded in Ukraine and now based in Paris, has flourished since 2010, with feminists around the world stripping off in protest at a wide range of issues linked to the mistreatment of women, but also against dictatorship. Tunisia, whose ruling coalition is headed by Islami

Naked woman slashes three during Pittsburgh-area street fight

Naked woman slashes three during Pittsburgh-area street fight PITTSBURGH - Pennsylvania authorities were searching on Tuesday for a woman who, apparently nude, stabbed and slashed other women in a street fight at a public housing complex outside of Pittsburgh. The brawl on Monday was captured on cell phones and security cameras, showing the woman wielding a knife and wounding three people, two seriously, according to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Housing Authority Police Chief Mike Vogel. The woman, identified as La Keysh Collins, 41, of Pittsburgh, appeared to be nude, but Vogel said it was unclear whether she joined the melee clothed or naked. Her clothes could have been ripped off in the fight, he said. "She appeared to be fully naked, but the footage was kind of pixilated," he said. "The cameras don't necessarily tell the whole story." Collins was being sought on charges of aggravated assault. Vogel said the other women in the fight at the McKees Rocks comp

Darja Tuschinski, 28, was denied a ticket to a Hindu dance show, before allegedly pushing past security and removing her clothes in a bizarre protest. The backpacker was caught on camera striding confidently past dancers before posing on the platform above them and forcing open a large set of gilded doors. When a local man tried to stop her, she curtsied at him, appearing to mimic the performers' movements, before walking off the platform to kneel next to a shrine as if in prayer. Shocked holidaymakers sitting in the audience watched as the tourist continued her naked procession, making her way back on stage, before security staff interv

Patton wasn't happy: Roosevelt collaborated with and was a friend of Major General Terry de la Mesa Allen Sr ., known for his hard-fighting and hard-drinking ways. Their unorthodox approach to warfare caught the attention of Lieutenant General George S. Patton, the Seventh Army commander in Sicily and former II Corps commander.  Patton disapproved of officers who "dressed down," rarely wore regulation field uniforms, and disregarded his spit-shined standards in the field. He considered both Allen and Roosevelt un-soldierly and frequently sent derogatory reports about Allen to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO). Patton treated Roosevelt as "guilty by association" due to his friendship and collaboration with the unconventional Allen.  Consequently, when Allen was relieved of his command of the 1st Division and reassigned, Roosevelt was also reassigned.  Following the D-Day landings, Roosevelt

I accept them more particularly, since they come from a colored lady, for if there is any one on God's great earth who loves the ladies, it is myself. This is a proud day for me. BUM DEAL Moment woman leaves shoppers flabbergasted when she turns up to the supermarket ‘naked NO ONE is expecting you to dress to the nines for a trip to the supermarket, however, they probably do expect you to get dressed. However, one woman appeared to forgo this expectation when she left fellow shoppers aghast when she turned up to do the food shop ‘naked In the viral photo, which has been shared on Reddit, the shopper appears to have turned up to do her weekly shop sans her bottom half, with her bare bottom seemingly on display. But it isn’t all as it seems as the woman was in fact wearing a pair of flesh coloured leggings making her bottom half appear naked. The photo was enough to fool plenty of people, however, with many convinced the shopper was totally naked. Commenting on the Reddit post, one wrote: “Are we sure she’s not naked from the waist down with tan socks?” This picture gave me instant anxiety,” wrote another, “We’ve all had that nightmare right???” Meanwhile a third
